THE PATIENT blew my mind. I would never have thought of the creative, quiet, intense story it revealed. It kept me on the edge of my comfy chair every time I watched.
Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson created the perfect, desperate partnership that could never succeed. I felt the “weight of chains” every moment they were together. Their acting skills of push and pull, breathless silences, and dull, evasive stares worked their magic at all times. It was as if each of us were experiencing the interrogation of therapy from not only Alan (Steve Carell) but also David Alan Grier. Brilliant and terrifying.
THE PATIENT did not travel to many locations. It was small and self-contained, yet it magically worked. The director and writers slowed the pacing so the sharp angles of horror had more power and control. I was hooked each week. I did not look away until the very end, and then I only took ragged breaths of disbelief. I am glad there was only one season. I could not handle it anymore. Kudos.
