GASLIT continues to be a “comedy of errors” during the aftermath of the Watergate break-in. It astounds me how “moronic” this group of men actually were. Even more appalling is that these men were the leaders of our country. Frightening and astounding.
Martha Mitchell (Julia Roberts) gave an outstanding performance as a woman cornered and trapped. As I watched the cruelty of power, hungry men, her pain became my pain. If those specific scenes were historically correct, then all I can say is, “holy cow!” I don’t remember those moments being a part of the media frenzy. It should have been.
I am impressed. I realize now how little we actually know about these “larger than life” political puppets. The Watergate scandal led our country “down a rabbit hole” of destruction. I don’t think either political party has truly, totally recovered. We have been served “alternative facts” for decades. Truths can be painful, especially when believing your family descended from royalty.
GASLIT can be streamed on STARZ.
