BAIT is Riz Ahmed’s (THE NIGHT OF and THE SOUND OF METAL) wild, personal spin on the James Bond formula, and you can feel his fingerprints all over it. If you’re hunting for an action-comedy binge, this one’s got you covered. Ahmed’s character, Shah, is a self-obsessed narcissist who makes you want to cringe and cheer at the same time. Yet because Ahmed is such a talented actor, audiences should genuinely care if by the end of it they’ll be calling him “Bond… James Bond” or not.
The supporting cast brings just as much heart and hilarity, with Guz Khan as Zulfi stealing every scene as Shah’s cousin and partner-in-crime. Khan nails the comedic sidekick role so well, I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes his ticket to bigger, funnier projects down the line.
Final Thought: The frenetic pace of BAIT is sure to lure audiences in, and if they stick with it they’ll catch a sleeper hit that’s currently on Prime Video.
