THE CHRISTOPHERS is a beautiful story woven together by two consummate actors, Ian McKellen as Julian and Michaela Coel as Lori. Their many dialogues and bantering created an intense and intentional plot that delivered from the beginning to the final frame. The movie was thoughtfully directed by the amazing Steven Soderbergh. (ERIN BROCKOVICH, BLACK BAG, SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE) His talented finesse and artistic choices showed in every encounter and conversation. It was a spellbinding tale of intrigue and deceit.
The successful sharing of THE CHRISTOPHERS is due to the pacing. Neither McKellen nor Coel held back when it came to using a complete silence or a twisted stare. These intriguing beats said more than mere simple words could imply. It will keep audiences on the edge of their chairs with their verbal sword-fighting parry attacks. It is not easy to contain most of the action to one set, but due to their brilliant acting skills, the film soars.
THE CHRISTOPHERS is not for someone who craves action and car chases. It is far more intellectual using the actions of two wordsmiths. The movie also costars James Corden. It was nice to see him back on the screen where he belongs. THE CHRISTOPHERS is all about fantastic acting, excellent storytelling, and creative directing. It should be experienced and seen by all who appreciate the intricacies of authentic and forged art pieces.
