THE DIPLOMAT is television viewing at its finest, that is if you are a fan of THE WEST WING’s lightning-fast banter and dramatic, intellectual action. I love this particular genre, so it is one of my favorites for 2026. It truly has gotten better with each season, especially since fans already know the characters so well. 

Keri Russell as Kate and Rufus Sewell as Hal are phenomenal together. Their extra beats, raised eyebrows, furrowed brows, and heavy sighs are spot-on as they bicker while maintaining respect and love for each other. Their timing can be compared to watching a masterclass on the high points of how to react to a fellow actor. It is a breathtaking experience. Add unto the mix Allison Janney, Ali Ahn, Ato Essandoh, Miguel Sandoval, Bradley Whitford, Nana Mensah and the calibre of talent is just raised to the roof. Every moment is in sync showcasing what we all imagine could go on behind closed doors if we were all privy to be in the room where it happens. There is so much at stake every second. The writing gives viewers gobs of perfect writing scenarios that concludes with one hell-of-a cliffhanger. It was mind-blowing. If only our politicians could be as wickedly bold in real life. I can’t say anymore for fear of spoilers, but believe me…I want to divulge everything.
