THE WITNESS is a limited series based on a true story that occurred in 1992. It was a horrific murder investigation of a young mother, Rachel Nickells, from Wimbledon Common, London, England. There was only one witness who survived. Rachel’s almost three-year-old son, Alex, tragically saw every detail. This case was the talk of social media for over a decade and achieved worldwide attention. It is common knowledge as to how the police botched their investigation. This series includes the perspectives of Rachel’s husband, Andre, and Alex, as well as all the evidence collected over the years. It is a compelling, complicated story that feels authentically shared.Â
Andre and Alex had an extremely difficult time due to the constant hounding of the press. Their experiences with the police changed their loyalty to law and order. It became one of the most controversial investigations in British history. The actors who portrayed all of the characters involved did an amazing job. They were able to showcase the frustrations and mental pain every person was put through during this incredibly long, drawn-out investigation. It was not flattering to the police, even though their hearts were in the right place. The story also allowed viewers to witness how this event affected the father-son relationship as Alex grew older. It is quite a tale, though it progressed very slowly, at times like a turtle. This was my only nit.Â
THE WITNESS is a series for those who enjoy investigative reporting in a dry tone, uncovering all the facts and blunders.
It is streaming on Netflix. Â
