THE STAIRCASE was all about the trial this week. Both sides “competing hard to win,” no matter if the “facts” are truthful or not. The outcome will be known at the end of the hour, but this is already “out there” on the internet, the newspapers, and in the French documentary about America’s justice system.
Michael (Colin Firth) does present a stoic character. He is tight-lipped and even scared. Colin is a consummate actor, who shows in every scene. He portrays the grieving widow so well that it becomes impossible to decipher fiction from non-fiction.
The Pearson family is being torn apart by the press, and lack of loyalty. They are bickering among themselves to a point of mental breakdowns. It is all very intense. I have a feeling it will only get worse as time passes.
THE STAIRCASE is not for the squeamish when it comes to viewing the death scene over and over. Where is DEXTER when you need a blood analysis? It is available to stream on HBO/MAX.
