THE RECRUIT is an action-packed CIA thriller. It asks viewers to suspend a bucket load of disbelief as it follows the frenetic antics of a 24-year-old who has just graduated with a law degree. Chaos ensues for the new recruit Owen (Noah Centineo.)
THE RECRUIT is planning a follow-up season since it ended with a huge cliffhanger. Owen might be adorable, and he can talk his way out of most blunders, but I sincerely hope this show is not a truthful depiction of the CIA. Heaven help us all. Noah portrays Owen as likable but naive. How can one man ruin that many suits in his first days of employment? Traveling to all corners of the world is projected as a typical workday. As they say in the spy world, “don’t tell me any details I might be called to testify about.” So many secrets!
Max (Ok aura Haddock) is a quirky, badass woman who is the catalyst for Owen’s path. Their scenes are humorous and sarcastic. Not realistic, but entertaining, nevertheless. My big question is, are bangs “in” again (asking for a friend)?
THE RECRUIT is pure escapism. It should not be taken seriously, even after witnessing many violent deaths in each episode. After a while, the audience won’t even notice the pile of bodies left behind. It will become as easy as snipping off a fingernail.
THE RECRUIT is available to stream on NETFLIX
