STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS aired another well-done episode that offered up several moral issues once someone places their butt in the Captain’s chair of any starship. It is a heavy, weighty responsibility, especially if dealing with emotional baggage from one’s past. The episode also contained another plot line that involved half of the crew in a dangerous situation. This time, relying on past training was the key. Both of these stories were highly entertaining, thoughtful, and exciting.
Fans learned of another rule with life-or-death consequences. General Order 24 should never be taken lightly or without full consensus. The middle ground is where most die, perhaps because they exhibit a savior complex. This week, the writers made me think about what I would do under the same conditions. This is the heart and soul of this series. The writers understand it is not always about space exploration. Space travel can also be about all the iffy decisions along the journey to a new destination. Kudos. I loved that it will all be decided in the future. This is all very realistic and true to life as we know it.
STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS was a great, thinking sci-fi moment. Gene Roddenberry would be proud.
It is streaming on Paramount+.
