WOW! I just finished watching the final episode of THE PATIENT. I am in shock and disbelief. I did not see this ending coming. My heart was racing with disbelief, sadness, and maybe a touch of hope.
There is nowhere to go with this limited series. It is definitely done…finished…kaput. Alan (Steve Carell), and Sam (Domhnall Gleeson), were given a script filled with quiet, breathless, unforgiving, evil moments. I am in awe of the silent desperation each showcased in their entrapment. It was indeed time to “make a choice.” There was to be no “living like a pet in the basement.”
THE PATIENT offered “no choice” in what finally happened. Last night I had a dream that I, too, wrote a letter to my loved ones. I woke up in a cold sweat. A finale of this level deserves our praises and our fears. The pendulum is still moving all around us.
