The Wes Anderson style over substance episodes of MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY is starting to get old. The plot does move forward this week, but it’s still not enough to justify a full 53 minutes of television.
With that said, I love the style of this show so much that I’m willing to give it a passing grade. It hasn’t quite kicked the “bucket.” However, the themes remain as strong as the characters’ tetherball games, and I’m excited for next week. Why? Because the series concludes on a cliff-hanger that teases something big is happening.
It appears it has taken five episodes to set up the full plot. There’s no need for an “emergency” quite yet, but next week better have a reveal, or this “mysterious society” will become too mysterious to hold my attention.
It’s available on Disney+.
