THE IRREGULARS takes place in Victorian London. It involves a band of five teenagers teaming with Sherlock Holmes and Watson. The premise is for them to solve mysteries and supernatural stories with brains, brawn, and magic. Over the top, you say? Probably.
The entire ensemble is color blind and they display all the proper teenage angst necessary to pull this off. The sets and costumes are a mix of steampunk and reality for the times. The mysteries are interesting as well, but when you put all this together with each characterโs individual problems, it can be a little much. The holes become very evident and clear.
THE IRREGULARS is not for everyone. I am a huge fan of mysteries, magic, and mayhem, but sometimes all of this just got in the way of the Baker Street Irregulars. I was intrigued by this show and its choices. It was entertaining, but I believe it could have been so much more. The first season ended with a hint to the future. Letโs hope, if it is renewed by NETFLIX, THE IRREGULARS fills those cavities and It comes back even stronger.
