UNITED STATES OF AL pulled out the heartstrings this week as Al (Adhir Kalyan) decided it was time for Art (Dean Norris) to find a new wife. He has been a widow for over a decade and Al doesn’t like to see anyone lonely.
The episode was humorous, poignant and bittersweet due to the entire ensemble which also includes Parker Young (Riley) and Elizabeth Alderfer (Lizzie). My favorite part was Art sharing gossip and ice cream at his wife’s grave.
UNITED STATES OF AL was not earth-shattering…just a simple theme about when it is time to move on, when to stand still and when you might need a push. For Ryan and Lizzie, it is not any of these moments yet. But it helps to have an Al in your life to support any of your decisions.
