THE FIRST LADY was all about boundaries placed upon Michelle Obama (Viola Davis), Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson), and Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer).  This episode also showed the differences and similarities of our country’s issues throughout the decades.

Each of these First Ladies were fighters and not hesitant to stand up for what they believed to be right. The problem was they were ahead of their time. America was just not ready to hear from “extraordinary” women. It kind of made the men around them quiver in their shoes. Ahh, but history reveals the truth. The Tuskegee University Commencement speech and 87 visas obtained for the refugees aboard the Quanza ship say it all.

THE FIRST LADY is well-written. It is educational and inspiring. There are many moments viewers are filled with pride as well as sadness for the humanity of it all.

It is available to stream on SHOWTIME.
