MARGOT’S GOT MONEY PROBLEMS is a humorous breath of fresh air that takes a closer look at modern motherhood within the confines of an extremely dysfunctional family. It is blunt and truthful. It paints an endearing and entertaining picture of life outside our planned life paths. It is a true delight to watch such messy mistakes unfold and thrive in ways most won’t see coming.
The strength of MARGOT’S GOT MONEY PROBLEMS rests with Margot (Elle Fanning), Shyanne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Jinx (Nick Offerman). Their crazy characters feel real and perfectly suited to each other. Their creativity is off the charts with stellar performances. Fanning, in particular, is a master at facially guiding audiences on a roller-coaster ride. We are in the palm of her hand as she changes from seduction to joy to doubt to anger and back. We are putty in her grasp. It is all so much fun. Fanning’s scenes with Offerman and Pfeiffer are incredible and hilarious, with just a dash of realism to make them believable. Bravo.
The entire cast ensemble is brilliant as well, including Nichole Kidman, Greg Kinnear, Thaddea Graham, and Graham Hendrix (the cutest baby ever). They add layer upon layer of intentional drama. What a hoot!
MARGOT’S GOT MONEY PROBLEMS is the brainchild of David E. Kelley (THE MADISON, BIG LITTLE LIES, ALLY MCBEAL, THE LINCOLN LAWYER). He is also one of several fine writers and producers based on the novel by Rufus Thorpe. This series is surrounded by Hollywood’s best.
I don’t usually rave quite this much, especially since only the first four episodes have aired. I don’t care. It’s my new favorite. I am hooked and waiting patiently for the final four to drop throughout May. It is that good, especially if you are a fan of boobs and F- bombs.
