GENIE  🤮

GENIE is a revisit of a timeless story theme. The problem is that once moviegoers have experienced the best, (Robin Williams in ALADDIN) it is impossible to accept Melissa McCarthy’s weak attempt.

GENIE had a wonderful heart-felt theme showcasing love, gratitude, and kindness, but it all just didn’t ring true or plausible. It is necessary to suspend all disbelief to even accept a GENIE could exist. Melissa was relatively restrained throughout the film. I needed her to “go there” and be much more outrageous. I don’t think she committed fully to her true character choices, and so it was all just a rehash wash.

GENIE did feature Paapa Essiedu as Bernard. He was a delight with a smile that could light up any dark corner, but it simply was not enough to encourage anyone tuning in on Peacock.
