FOR ALL MANKIND completed its fifth and hopefully final season. The first season began in 2019 and took viewers through space exploration, with an intriguing timeline that included real historical events and plenty of family drama. It was always a slow burn to get to the meat and heart of the story. The fifth was no exception. I question the necessity of dragging this series out so long. How many times do I have to say “less is more?”Â
Life on Mars, Earth, and the Moon is extremely complicated in space exploration, but I can honestly say with gusto that I did not like or enjoy the rebellion and subsequent battles. Does humanity ever learn that violence is not the answer? The entire season was a bit disarming to me. I got bored and often had to force myself to watch and finish each episode. There were too many characters and unnecessary subplots. It was hard to keep them all straight and to know which side I should feel more empathy for. I did like the ending because it was hopeful, but it took too long to get there.
I do enjoy watching sci-fi, but I feel FOR ALL MANKIND got lost among the dust and vastness of space. It did not invoke a tear for all who gave their lives along the way. I was glad when the final credits rolled, and I knew I had completed a show that many of my friends and colleagues had long since given up on. It was a letdown. I hope no one else follows in my stubborn, tenacious footsteps.Â
It is streaming on Apple TV.Â
