DIE MY LOVE offers viewers a conundrum. Do you watch a film simply because it is built around a stellar performance and a topic that should be talked openly about more often, even though it was all over the place in plot, pacing, and likability? This is where I landed after watching. It is still causing my brain and heart to struggle over how I can offer any advice to audiences. DIE MY LOVE just didnโt float my boat.ย
Jennifer Lawrence as Grace is a gifted actress and invites moviegoers deep within the mindset of a womanโs mental state soon after giving birth. Her facial expressions personify a lost, lonely future, even as they showcase her initial delight in being a mom. It is a hard film to get through. There arenโt many warm, fuzzy moments, and at times it feels downright uncomfortable. I was really anxious for the entire thing to end. I wanted out of Grace and Jacksonโs (Robert Pattinson) life. I honestly just didnโt care anymore. This is not a good sign for a critical review.ย
The movie had major star power within the cast, featuring Sissy Spacek and Nick Nolte, but they were underused, and their characters were underdeveloped. This was a venue for Jennifer Lawrence. Personally, I was letdown.ย
DIE MY LOVE will give Lawrence another notch of a fantastic acting frenzy to raise the Oscar buzz race for Best Actress. I am just not buying into the greatness of the film itself, but I will support the genius of Jennifer.
It is playing in theaters everywhere.ย
