DEXTER is back!!! I didn’t know how much I missed this show until now. I was a huge fan and was secretly relieved when the original run ended. So many gruesome deaths, and yet I never missed an episode. Comebacks can be a bitch, but DEXTER: NEW BLOOD scores a home run.
Michael C. Hall is an actor’s actor. He was meant to play this character. DEXTER is dark, evil, and sarcastic. When he glares at you, you know your days are numbered. Michael and the writers give DEXTER all the quirkiness he needs to be believable and intimidating in a quiet, scary manner. I like the fact that he is flawed and the writing highlighted that craziness to bring out a very damaged serial killer.
The story begins ten years after the first series ended. Dexter is no longer living in Miami. He now lives in a cold, dark, small town in upstate New York. He changed his name to Jim Lindsey, a salesman at a local shop. Dexter/Jim lives by a set of rigid rules set down by his deceased sister, Debra, (Jennifer Carpenter). She appears to him and keeps him grounded with everyday routines. This is all I am going to say. Every viewer should rediscover the intense journey with Dexter alone.
This is only the beginning for DEXTER: NEW BLOOD. It is totally evident when the credits roll at the end. Cue DEXTER’s creepy, original theme music. Oh, my heart…be still.
It is available to stream on SHOWTIME.
