And just like that, the third season of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS goes out with a bang. It hits all the right notes, balancing humor, “human” relationships, and world-building.
After the penultimate episode, it was hard to imagine where the gang would be after one of their core four was no longer with them. However, in THE PORTRAIT, we learn so much about the personalities and motivations behind these characters. It has almost a soap-operatic feel, especially given the three cliffhangers at the end.
Laszlo (Matt Berry) has become much more than the one-note vampire we’ve come to love over the past three seasons and ultimately is the star of this episode, if not the whole season. Nandor and Guillermos’ relationship has always been fun to watch, but there’s more heart than ever this season.
While THE PORTRAIT doesn’t tie much up, it’s a great conclusion to the boldest WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS season yet. Add in all the great one-liners, and this episode has become one of my favorites so far. THE PORTRAIT is available to watch on FX on Hulu.
