TED LASSO’s latest episode, MAE RIDES THE BUS, played on the manipulation button with my heartstrings. I did not see the need to do what they did to fans in such a blatant way. It felt like cheating a cherished cast member who deserved so much more. I was not moved to tears. It was far too predictable with all the foreshadowing. I wish I could say more, but I would hate to reveal spoilers. I am sure there will be details in the season finale next week, but in my mind, this is too little, too late, and this has been the pattern for the entire fourth series. It’s a roller coaster ride with all the turbulent, dramatic ups and downs included, and I mean this not in a good way.
There were shining, clever moments that should be recognized, and this is the reasoning for my chosen emoji rating. The story content between Keeley and Rebecca, as well as Keeley and Roy, was priceless and beautifully created. The writers nailed those segments with a bullseye. Those scenes made me tear up and want to hug them all. It was imaginative, sweet, and filled with a zillion emotional levels. Bravo for the well-thought-out scenarios. There was a ton of character growth showcased within each subplot too. It was totally uplifting, but I cannot let go of the writers’ other content missteps of combining such elation and joy against a bus ride. Yes, that is lifeβ¦ blah, blah, blah. It sincerely took away from what could have been one of the best episodes this season.
In my mind, TED LASSO did not have to return for this fourth journey. I was content and happy. Now I am wondering if I will be back next year when they inevitably are renewed.
