DAMSEL is โnot a story where the knight saves the DAMSEL,โ rather it is a a fantastical tale involving a talking, fire-breathing dragon, and true grit. Royalty does not always guarantee good people, and stepmothers can alter their age-old paradigms.ย ย
Millie Bobby Brown portrays Elodie, the misguided future princess. This was a film centered around the former STRANGER THINGS star. It was wonderful to see her with hair, make-up, and beautiful gowns. Her determination and kindness for all living creatures set the bar for DAMSEL, which makes it a modern fairy tale expressing oodles of girl power. She is a wonderful role model for future generations. The cast also featured the extraordinary talent of Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Nick Robinson, and Brooke Carter.ย
DAMSEL has much potential but fails at times to fill the writing gaps throughout the story. Most of the action scenes are filmed in a myriad of dark tunnels and caves. Can someone say turn on the flashlight, please? This would have added even more angst and terror when the chase was on. I would have liked additional content about the past which would allow for an evenย sweeter pay-off.ย
DAMSEL will not be retold throughout the ages, but it did provide an enchanted and entertaining twist to the dilemma of living with a dragon bed as a neighbor. It is streaming on Netflix.ย
