It’s clear that this season is less about huge plot changes for our favorite vampires of Staten Island while instead focusing on small character growth. For that reason, the latest edition, FREDDIE, is my favorite of the season.
The main evolution in the show comes from two sets of duos.
First up is Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) and Nandor’s (Kayvan Novak) relationship. What started in season one was a vampire using him as a familiar has grown into a genuinely caring relationship. Although that partnership might be misguided at times, you can see that despite not having a beating heart, Nandor loves Guillermo, making for hilarious opposite-attract sitcom moments.
Then there’s Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) and Lazslo (Matt Berry). Once Lazslo found out in S3 the lifespan of an energy vampire, it has been endearing to watch him go through growing pains (puberty and all) to almost become a father figure.
While I would prefer some significant plot movement in S4, I can’t fault a show that continues to surprise with hilarious cameos through the “Celebrity Special.”
The latest episode is available on Hulu FX.
