If you read my PRIMAL review, you know I love Genndy Tartakovsky. Fang and Spear hooked me on his gift for carrying narrative with almost no dialogue. CLONE WARS is where he first pulled that off in a galaxy far, far away.
Seasons 1 – 2 form one continuous arc, twenty-five chapters of about three-five minutes each. Disney+ stitches them into two single hour-long cuts, and that’s the best way to watch it.
While the story featuring Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka is complicated, most of it is told simply through Tartakovsky’s famous style of motion. Every chapter opens, hits, and ends before it can wear out its welcome. And those lightsaber battles are flawlessly executed. It’s beautiful to witness.
One thing to note: this is Star Wars Legends now, so nothing is in the current canon. Enjoy it as a great story rather than gospel. If you want long conversations and downtime, the 2008 series is a better vehicle for that.
Final Thought: The same bold, near-wordless swing I loved in PRIMAL was on display twenty-plus years earlier with Tartakovsky’s CLONE WARS. If you love Genndy, or animation that dares to be different, this one’s a must-watch.
