THE LINCOLN LAWYER continued the violent storyline seconds after it paused a month ago. It was touching to see the visitors come and go while surrounding Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) in the hospital. This was the typical Michael Connelly style of pushing forward through a courtroom drama, even wearing a cast.
The murder trial consumed this group of episodes. The writers gave us many typical “Haller” moments. The plot twisted and turned with every “shenanigan” he tried. “Reasonable doubt” is Mickey’s calling card for sure, but it is so much fun to watch how he gets away with it. There was a huge surprise at the conclusion of the garden and the morgue. I hope this means THE LINCOLN LAWYER will return for a third season. Audiences and fans of the book have got to love that Lincoln Town car and discovering new food trucks for lunch, all while admiring the spectacular Los Angeles view from his balcony.
I did thoroughly enjoy the scenes with Mickey’s crazy, over-the-top Mother. Their Spanish-speaking moments and the romantic surprise party were perfect. Characters are moving on and growing. Mickey still seems stuck in his choices. Manuel does create such an honest, compelling, well-imagined man. This is the draw of the show. Viewers would love to wrap their arms around Mickey and help him see the joys of life outside the courtroom. Not going to happen, I know, but one can dream.
THE LINCOLN LAWYER is a sharp, well-written courtroom drama that leaves you satisfied and wanting more all at the same time. It is available to stream on Prime Video.
