The 1st season of THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT worked because it put the protagonist, Cassie (Kaley Cuoco), in constant danger that she had to escape. It wasn’t her fault that her one-night stand was murdered, and she was at the center of a HUGE espionage shit-show. In the 2nd season, Cassie is now a bit smarter and sober yet knowingly continues to put herself in danger. That’s a tougher “shot” to swallow than a drunk party girl who could be making good choices.
Keeping the 2nd season “grounded,” the creators add “more.” More characters, plot, action, double-crossing, etc. It’s a lot to keep track of, and for the most part, it’s not riveting.
However, where THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT takes off is in the depiction of Cassie’s alcoholism. It’s a sobering look and another award-winning performance by Kaley Cuoco. And she is reason enough to clear any TSA restrictions and board this hit-or-miss sophomore season.
