THE FIRST LADY is centered around not “rocking the boat” in all three, different terms of the Presidency. Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer), Michelle Obama (Viola Davis), and Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson) were all told to stick with “women’s” issues. They were chastised if the “real world” was discussed.
I loved watching the strength and conviction these women brought to the White House. Heaven help the men and women who got in the middle of their path. “Sometimes what needs to be said is too important to let fear get in the way.” I admired the causes Betty, Eleanor, and Michelle fought for against all odds.
THE FIRST LADY is not getting the best of press reviews. Some say the amazing acting abilities of these actresses are being wasted. I disagree. I thoroughly enjoy watching history unfold before my eyes. I want to know the little details that puts us “in the room where it happened.” I am learning about moments before my time, during my youth, and not so long ago. This is a good thing. And as a woman, I am stronger for it.
THE FIRST LADY is available to stream on SHOWTIME.
