SWEET TOOTH S1 😊

The post-apocalyptic style and original storytelling aren’t enough to make this series a 🤩. Instead, it suffers from the Netflix sag, meaning it has too much filler, cliched dialogue, and nothing new for these lovable characters’ adventures.

In a futuristic world, a genetic mutation causes kids to be born as half-human/half-animal. The humans who remain are afraid of the differences these new breeds bring and attempt to eliminate their species. The overall framing of this world is majestic with an exquisite voice-over by Sam Elliott.

The main story involves a half-human and half-deer, Gus, and a macho ex-football player, Tommy that does his best to protect him. Through various cliched flashbacks, audiences get to learn Gus and Tommy’s origins, which are not as shocking as the show’s creators think they are.

This show looks and sounds beautiful. The world that creator Jim Mickle puts on the screen is worth seeing, even though he leaves his characters stranded with little to do outside of standard fantasy tropes.

Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger. However, I hope this show comes back, learns from the mistakes, and kicks it out of the park ala STRANGER THINGS second outing.

It’s available on Netflix.
