SHRINKING delivered the perfect finale to an already extraordinary season of superb writing and acting. It was one magical moment after another until the tears were rolling down my cheeks uncontrollably. Thank you for shining a spotlight on how to move forward after profound grief, while surrounding viewers with such powerful, simple truths.
The entire ensemble deserves a standing ovation. This group of close friends knew in their hearts how to give audiences a performance that would linger with honest, deeply emotional sections of their character arcs. The writers drew fans into accepting the conclusion of this three-year story concept. The creators, Brett Goldstein, Bill Lawrence, and Jason Segel, never once went for the “safe dick.” Next season, the entire cast is set to return to explore a brand-new plot path. I can’t wait. I am ready to “let go of the past so I can move forward,” just as long as I can shout “fu** Parkinson’s” whenever I feel the urge.
There are three MVP awards to be handed out, first to Gabby (Jessica Williams) er bold, brash, eccentric acting choices. She is surprising, fresh, and sharply delivered in each episode. Second, there is Paul (Harrison Ford), who can make viewers laugh and cry out loud simultaneously. I adored his being on the verge of tears each week as he continuously gifts everyone with his prolific wisdom. He is one hell of a class actor. He is a walking, breathing masterclass in motion. And lastly, Jimmy (Jason Segel), who “jimmied” his way into our hearts and souls. He is a consummate actor because he makes it all look so damn easy and natural. Bravo… just bravo.
SHRINKING deserves a well-earned break, which will allow for extra time to create some “scars” within our own lives. Til they return, feel free to “tug on your invisible strings” as often as necessary.
SHRINKING is streaming on Apple TV.
