REBOOT is a fresh, humorous look at an old, imaginary sitcom. It reinforces the studio mantra, “Let’s remake something original.”
REBOOT brings together an incredible ensemble of characters that includes Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Paul Reiser, Judy Greer, Johnny Knoxville, Calum Worthy, and Krista Marie Yu. They portray actors recreating a popular family TV show that aired on HULU. They all have unresolved issues and flaws, allowing viewers to see these “actors” as authentic people. They have “dark secrets.” The writing tells it like it is, so the series can be “depraved and yet nurturing” all at the same time. Funny moments that made me laugh out loud.
Sam Levitan from MODERN FAMILY fame is the creator, writer, producer, and sometimes director. The show is fast-paced. It allows all over-the-top topics to be showcased in the writing room, the reading table, the trailers, or the audience taping. Everywhere is fair game.
REBOOT is different. It surprises you with “scissor” discussions among the young and old writers. It begs the question, “What is funny today, and how far can we go?” I don’t think the answers matter because “Everything works out in TV.”
REBOOT is available to stream on HULU.
