The new DOCTOR STRANGE may have the word “multiverse” in the title, yet MOON KNIGHT could easily do the same. As space, time, and a giant hippo close out season one of the series, I am happy to report the creators stick the landing… kind of.
After WANDAVISION, HAWKEYE, CAPTAIN FALCON, and LOKI, it’s safe to say that Marvel has a formula. Drop a ton of exposition in a fun way in the penultimate episode and follow it up with superhero action. This isn’t a bad thing, as it rightfully allows each of these titles to connect to the bigger MCU and continue into a season two (if there is one). With MOON KNIGHT, the creators follow this Marvel formula to moderate success.
Despite the formulaic conclusion, this doesn’t take away from MOON KNIGHT being the most audacious Marvel series yet. Every episode is easily a 🤩 , while this one is simple a 😊. Even during the predictable GODZILLA / OG GHOSTBUSTER-like finale, the first season didn’t let me down.
One thing that MOON KNIGHT completed was the payoff of narrative debt. This show did not “LOST” the ending. Instead, audiences will get their answers before saying “laters gators” to one of the most unique superhero stories ever told in the MCU.
It’s available on Disney+.
