LIFE, LARRY AND THE PURSUIT OF UNHAPPINESS is finally over. I can’t believe I finished the entire season. Whew! This was a chore. I am usually a fan of Larry David (CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM) and I am aware of his unique type of comedy schtick. I cannot say enough accolades about Barack and Michelle Obama, who were the executive producers, but, holy cow, it was really awful. I had reviewed the first episode and had stated how greatly disappointing it was. My husband gave up, but I muddled through the unfunny muck. It just isn’t worthy of audiences’ time or attention.
The best parts of this series were Obama’s two appearances. He was the bookend that anchored what they were trying to create on screen. Obama’s sketch made me smile. I liked how it poked a silly, so-called political scandal. I also thoroughly enjoyed all the guest stars who made special appearances in every episode. It brought a tear to my eyes when I recognized the amazing Rob Reiner in his final performance soon before he died. His words rang true and echoed deep within my heart. Seeing Jerry Seinfeld was a hoot as well, but none of this was enough to salvage warm, cuddly feelings towards LLATPOU. David shouted his way through each character with very unfunny results. Even Samuel L. Jackson as the narrator couldn’t revive any empathy from my point of view.
LIFE, LARRY AND THE PURSUIT OF UNHAPPINESS needs to slip quietly into the abyss of situation comedy failures, and we should never mention it again, even though it is streaming on HBO MAX.
