LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND is an apocalyptic thriller featuring an all-star cast of phenomenal acting talent. Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Alison, Myha’la, Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans, and Kevin Bacon are the glue that pulls and guides viewers through this fascinating film. It is based on the novel of the same title by Rumaan Alam.
LTWB is compelling and intriguing. The music carefully adds to each scene of desperation. My favorite must involve the “shooing of deers” surrounding the female leads. I was unworldly and unnerving. Although the harrowing car pile-up and the chase was a close second. All I kept thinking was what the heck is going on? I am sure I would be as unprepared as all of them.
The writers of this movie left audiences with much to think about. How would any of us trust…especially if “I hated all fu***** people.” I fear most of us would perish and that brings moviegoers right back to LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND. Maybe the animals and birds should just inherit the earth. It certainly will lead to a lively discussion about our “human instincts” and why we get tired of “waiting.” It is available on Netflix.
