KELSEY COOK: HAPPY HOUR presented another comedy special when she made a stop in the Twin Cities. Cook caught my attention because she was originally from Spokane, Washington where I currently reside. She created several jokes about the Spokane lifestyle during her stand-up comedy routine. She has a unique style in that she does not shout or yell. Her cussing is minimal, lightly sprinkled throughout her time on stage. She often poked fun at herself, yet stood up for her opinion in the end. This was my first introduction to Cook, and I canโt really say anything great or bad about her comedic interpretations. I would say she is right in the middle of the spectrum.
Cook did talk for several minutes about her mother who has dementia, but she handled these very emotional bits with class and grace. I was impressed with her strength and honesty. It allowed the audience to see a very private part of her life. On the other hand, she also did several jokes about pooping and farting on a plane. Donโt know if this would balance out any scales, but I do know my four-year old grandson would have loved hearing those stories. As for me? Not so much.
KELSEY COOK: HAPPY HOUR is a fairly young comedian. Though she has her moments of great giggles, she might still need to work at her material. Her special was okay, but I am not sure it will be memorable. It is streaming on Netflix.
