AMBULANCE is a 100% Michael Bay, over-the-top action movie. The plot is practically non-existent, except for destroying as many cars, trucks, and police vehicles as possible. Yet, the AMBULANCE is still intact.
The cast boasts Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, and Eliza Gonzalez. Intense and compelling moments with all three actors throughout the film. The problem is the script. What they did visually and procedurally is flat-out impossible in real life. I love getting lost in high-speed chases, but to what end? And they were too numerous even to count. Cars flying every which way and three trauma doctor specialists on hold were just a bit much.
The pacing was frenetic and crazed. There were times it just reminded me of the “OJ” scene on the freeway. Suspending my disbelief for “20 MPH” was the final straw. I ended up screaming at the TV, where is my “pay-off?”
AMBULANCE might be just what some Michael Bay fans want and need. As for me, I wanted what Danny dreamed about, “I want this to be over. I just want to go home.”
