ABBOTT ELEMENTARY gave viewers a much-needed look into Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) family. We have been waiting for Mom to appear, and the wait was well with it.
Vanetta, portrayed by the vivacious Taraji P. Henson, decided to visit her daughter’s class for the first time. What a chaotic, controlling character. Thank goodness Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) had Janine’s back. The writing wove an intricate story about the never-ending push and pull of mother/daughter relationships. When does the daughter have enough confidence to see their parent’s flaws and be able to say, “She’s my mom, and I still love her.” Bathing suit cover-ups will help take care of any embarrassment.
While Gregory (Tyler James Williams) is finding his “shoot the breeze” connections, who knew Jacob (Chris Perfetti) was already a magician with pizazz? Memorial weekend sure brings out the best in everyone. Growth is in the air. The writers just keep moving audiences forward with simple references and huge rewards.
ABBOTT ELEMENTARY is clearly in a class all its own. The creative storytelling, the humor, and the pure honesty of everyday situations continue to make it one of the best sitcoms on television today. It is availed to stream on ABC and Hulu.
