I loved WONDER MAN, the new Marvel character with surprising, exciting, uncontrolled powers. He is a Supe who got my full attention because of his fears of being discovered. The series was also a master class in acting. This was brilliantly highlighted by Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor and WONDER MAN himself, Simon, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Both of them delivered two entirely different approaches to the art of acting. It was an incredible duo, but then, do remember I am a former Theatre teacher. Need I say more?
What I loved about WONDER MAN was the quick pacing of each episode, the funny dialogue that seemed improvised, the surprise guest stars, and the constant pushing of the edge of what should be considered normal behavior and choices. Each installment surprised me as the writers and actors exposed the beginnings of crazy relationships and family dynamics. It shed light on how to be a great dad when dealing with some unusual growing pains. It took audiences deep within a doorman’s body. “Ding-dong” will never sound so innocent again.
WONDER MAN delivered. It was intriguing, heart-warming, and explosive. I never knew what to expect, yet I knew I was always safe nestled within the extraordinary talents of Kingsley. He was truly a breath of fresh air. It all ended with a fun intensity toward another season. I can’t wait.
