TRUE SPIRIT

TRUE SPIRIT is a biographical film based on the true story of Australian Jessica Watson. She is the youngest person ever to sail unassisted, solo, around the world. The film was entertaining and inspirational.  

Jesse (Teagan Croft) decided at a young age sailing was her thing. She worked at her dream, achieving this phenomenal accomplishment at just sixteen. There were so many against this dangerous voyage, but with the encouragement of her amazing family, she achieved her goal. TRUE SPIRIT is more about the tremendously difficult journey and how Jesse overcame her obstacles. It is a movie about feelings and what it takes to make an “ordinary” teen a hero to millions worldwide. 

TRUE SPIRIT contains many anxious moments throughout the film. It captured Jesse’s zest for sailing, Mother Nature, and her family. Anna Paquin portrayed her mother with love, faith, and total acceptance of her daughter’s daunting dream. It was understated, and it worked beautifully as a testament to the strength of their mother/daughter bond. 

TRUE SPIRIT does not hold twists and surprises. Jessica Watson’s life is a part of our history. But if you want to watch a movie that will bring out that adventurous, exploratory side to humanity’s nature, then be sure to check out TRUE SPIRIT. it is a family-friendly film that will have you reaching for that box of tissues at the finish line. I know I am not ashamed to admit it. I only felt pride and respect. It is available to stream on Netflix.
