THE NIGHT AGENT knows how to deliver a clever spy thriller series. Sprinkling ensemble with new characters, an exciting, nail-biting plot, and fast-paced action has made this third season the best of the previous two. (At least, according to fans.) All of this political espionage makes for entertaining fodder that will keep audiences coming back for more. It is all based on the novel written by Matthew Quirk.ย
Strong performances are the key to our ability to follow the fallen all the way to the top of the food chain. Their scenarios would be impossible to achieve in todayโs political climate, but one can always dream. At the helm is Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Rasso), who never wavers in his quest to bring all the bad guys to justice. Even though he looks like the boy next door, thugs should beware. The man can truly throw a punch. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more of the backstory behind Sutherland as well. It filled in many empty holes. The father-son plotline did nothing for me. Yes, though sweet and brutal, it seemed to get in the way during each hunt. It overstayed its importance throughout the series. Less is always more. Jacob, Adam, and Chelsea were the bomb. They kept my attention throughout their moral, changing characters. I never knew what to expect from them as the clock raced to its conclusion. It was a fantastic conundrum.
THE NIGHT AGENT, I am sure, will return. Sutherland is maturing, and he has become a necessity to the safety of our nation. I can get behind that. He was written for both men and women to adore, not only for his kind heart, but also for his incredible fighting skills. This is a great, heroic combo. Too bad he doesnโt exist in real life.
THE NIGHT AGENT is streaming on Netflix.
