THE MORNING SHOW shined a much-needed light on Alex and Mitch’s relationship and partnership. The writers explicitly wanted the viewers to “embrace the warts” and know everyone is replaceable.
Both Mitch (Steve Carell) and Alex (Jennifer Anniston) want something erased. For Mitch, he is having second doubts about the interview he gave to Paola. Alex needs the world to know that she did not sleep with Mitch, whether it is the truth or not.
This episode was necessary. We needed to understand this powerful duo. I loved the rockiness and strength of their relationship. Intense and uncomfortable was how I felt watching it unfold. I would have hated being their producer. Mitch wants to change. He needs to be a better human being, but when he and Alex are together, it is the epitome of a love/hate dynamic.
My problem with THE MORNING SHOW is figuring out where it is going. What are the end goals for this season? Episode 7 brought us no closer to that junction, yet it ended with a cliffhanger. It is time to pull it all together and give us our reward for sticking it out. I will be very disappointed if there is no “pay-off.”
THE MORNING SHOW is available to stream on Apple TV+.
