THE LOST BUS 🤩

THE LOST BUS is a well-done, tough-to-watch film about the devastating 2018 fire that destroyed the beautiful town of Paradise, California. Eighty-five people lost their lives that day. The movie entwines authentic video clips of the raging, out-of-control fire alongside the compelling, true story of one man and one teacher who worked together to take 22 children to safety. My heart was in my stomach every step of the way.

There are three reasons THE LOST BUS is so good… Matthew McConaughey, America Ferrara, and the director, Paul Greengrass (BLOODY SUNDAY, UNITED 93). The creative bar was set to perfection. The scenes of going through that inferno, as well as all the intimate moments of backstory, were brilliantly portrayed by actors who know how to project clear, concise characters. The pacing was spot-on. I could not turn away or let go of any of the horrible images on my screen. It was all so believable, down to the orange, smoke-filled skies and the screams of those scared 22 little ones. Bravo to the cinematographer.

THE LOST BUS is well worth the audience’s time. It made me think about what I would have done in the same situation, especially as a former teacher, feeling responsible for my students. It gives new meaning to when notices are sent out to evacuate and leave your bags behind. Frightening.

It is streaming on Apple TV+.
