THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 has hit movie theaters everywhere. This sequel picks up 20 years after the 2006 original, featuring most of the same cast, plus a large number of guest appearances by iconic fashion designers, media legends, famous models, and major screen stars. Audiences will have to stay focused (Donโt blink!) to spot all the name-droppers who appear at lightning-fast runway speed. The plot is intriguing and entertaining while still shining a huge spotlight on what is happening to magazines and journalists today. It could have gone heavy-handed, but thankfully, it stayed delightfully fun, with stunning locations and sarcastic zingers aimed at everyone.ย
Meryl Streep is the center of this story as she portrays the caustic, acrid Amanda, the powerful, fearless boss lady of Runway Magazine. Itโs as if time has stood still for these past two decades. Streep stepped into her turquoise stilettos as if it were just yesterday. Every gesture, every subtle touch to her hair, every look of disdain is intentional and brilliantly created. Her pacing, her extra silent beats, are pure perfection. Sometimes no words are even necessary, but the takedown is dazzling. This time around, fans were treated to her softer, vulnerable side as well. It was compelling and drove the story to new heights.ย
Anne Hathaway as Andy was the perfect protagonist for Miranda. Twenty years later, Andy is far more confident in her writing and can do what is necessary to match Anandaโs strengths with her usual humorous acting skills and physicality. They are a match made in heaven. Toss in Stanley Tucci as Nigel (with his empathetic puppy-dog eyes), Emily Blunt as Emily (with her conniving nature), and the movie soars with conflicts and emotional character arcs. Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, and Kenneth Branagh add additional layers as well.ย
The star of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 was also the gorgeous couture clothing. It was magnificent and breath-taking. Yes, accessories complete the look, but the magnificence of all the stunning combinations was an artistic triumph. The colors and glitz explode in every frame, and it’s all a feast for our eyes.ย It is artistry in the making personifying โquiet luxury.โ Bravo.ย
The music added a pulsating pace to every scene. David Frankel, the director, was also in charge of the first THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. He obviously made incredible creative choices for both films, including Lady Gagaโs superb vocals and sassy attitude. Nicely done.ย
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is excited to say โthe future is about change,โ and viewers should know โthere is a costโ that is occurring across our current society as a result. Thoughtful themes within a light-hearted, comedic movie. Fans will not be disappointed.
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 can be seen at your local theaters.
