“We are only two people, but this is how things change.”
THE COURIER is based upon a true story during the days leading up to the Cuban Missile Crises. It is a gripping spy tale of two men becoming courageous for their country.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays Grenville Wynne with finesse. He truly elevated this film with his superb acting skills. I love it when an actor chooses to transform his physical features, and Benedict took us into the darkness of authenticity. I felt his pain, fear, doubt, and belief that we all must do the right thing even when times are difficult.
Oleg Penkovsky is brought to life by Merab Ninidze. This was another stellar performance. He showed us all of the angst and terror that must have surrounded Oleg every day. Rachel Brosnahan portrayed Emily in her normal MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL fashion.
During the Cold War, over 5,000 messages were transported back forth between Oleg in Russia and Grenville in Great Britain. It changed history and what could have been, if not for the sheer heroism of these ordinary men. THE COURIER is an important chapter in our past. It shows how anyone can make a difference in the world’s outcome.
THE COURIER is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
