THE BROTHERS SUN S1 REVIEW

THE BROTHERS SUN is an action-packed journey of Taipei gangsters, ghosts, and triads. It boils down to the ultimate chase of becoming the Dragon Head. Every episode is jam-packed with endless, fast, Jackie Chan, creative Kung Fu fighting. What a kick.

Michelle Yeoh as Eileen is the foundation. She is trying to hold the family together. Her two polar opposite sons Charles (Justin Chien) and Bruce (Sam Song Li) do their best to add fighting chaos and moments of improvised calmness to the fray. The three of them create quite a yin-yang effect for the entire series. The writing is heartfelt and humorous. I love the sarcastic, biting tones in the conversation, especially with the running gag of “being too fat” or the word “fatty” thrown at most of the ensemble at one point or another.  

Each episode flew by and I am sure the brilliantly choreographed fighting attacks left viewers breathless. THE BROTHERS SUN grew in anticipation of what could possibly happen next. Flying golf balls, clicking mahjong racks, and golden churros hit the spot each time. I was sad to see it end. 

THE BROTHERS SUN is a binge-worthy treat for fans who love crazy, never-ending, hand-to-hand combat. It will also put a smile on your face while repeating the mantra…protect the family. “Hiya!”
