SNL50: BEYOND SATURDAY NIGHT is a four-part documentary series that pulls Saturday Night Live’s inner workings and history to the forefront. It celebrates the good, the bad, the funny, and the weird moments from the past fifty seasons.
Each episode dealt with a different theme. Watching a bunch of original audition “tapes” of our favorite comedians while listening to their comments was a hoot. I couldn’t stop laughing. Another episode was all about the plight of the writers. I can relate. A third went into SNL’s most popular and memorable skit, “The Cowbell.” I was rolling on the floor. It was hilarious. And the final show was all about the ominous season 11. It was a catalyst for the next 39 years. I learned so much while being thoroughly entertained.
SNL50: BEYOND SATURDAY NIGHT was simply joyful and fun. It brought back memories and made me realize how quickly time flies. Don’t miss this smart, clever show. It is pure escapism.
