Almost ten years ago, RICK AND MORTY made its premiere on Adult Swim. The series has had its ups and downs, but as long-time fans know, those ups are so ricking-awesome you’ll slog through a president episode to get to the good stuff.
With UNMORTRICKEN, the show easily delivers a top-five episode. Audiences can guess where things are heading from the opening montage, but it’s still shockingly fun. Without spoiling too much, E5 reminded me of the SUCCESSION’s final season midpoint. This could’ve easily been a series finale, and I would’ve 100% been satisfied. Yet, releasing this jaw-dropping episode midseason was “prime, evil.”
Do yourself a favor, take a “heroic step towards the portal” before it closes, and watch. After LOKI’s second season, science fiction fans continue to be treated with fantastic TV sci-fi this year. And without “ricksplaining” anymore, UNMORTRICKEN will be remembered as one of the best TV episodes of any 2023 series.
