In some ways, I’m in two minds about OBI-WAN KENOBI. I am a voracious STAR WARS fan, and I’m proud to say that REBELS, CLONE WARS, and even RESISTANCE. But thinking back on why, it’s honestly really because of THE MANDALORIAN Season 2. I’d have to say that before then, I was just a casual fan – I had seen and enjoyed all the films, but didn’t quite “get” it.
The reason I mention my backstory is twofold – I’ll pretty much enjoy any STAR WARS content. OBI-WAN KENOBI is a fun show, but it doesn’t come close to the magic of THE MANDALORIAN — yet. It feels simultaneously weighed down by the immense amount of canon lore during this time period, and yet also seems to be re-explaining a lot of the setting of REBELS (especially the Inquisitors).
But don’t get me wrong; I loved this episode. The cast is excellent and this has one of the most unpredictable storylines we’ve seen in STAR WARS so far. I love the Inquisitors and their quest for power, Leia and Obi-Wan’s never-before-seen adventure, and, of course, Darth Vader in the flesh.
If we continue seeing relatively complex storylines, excellent saber choreography, and power struggles, I expect OBI-WAN KENOBI to be far better than THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT.
OBI-WAN KENOBI PART III is available to stream on Disney+.
