NOBODY WANTS THIS is a fresh and fun new rom-com that crosses religious boundaries. It showcases how difficult and compromising all relationships can be, especially when mixing a Rabbi and a hot Shickah (a non-Jewish girl). Oy vey. Whatever happened to making ‘healthy dating choices?’
Joanne (Kristen Bell) is irritable, sarcastic, adorable, and an agnostic podcaster. Her sex-talk, outrageous show is shared with her loud, boisterous sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe). They are hilarious together, and nothing is off the table for discussion, including the Obliterator (Don’t ask or go to level ten right away). Who would have thought Joanne would fall for a ‘hot Rabbi’ (Adam Brody)? Oh, the love scenes are sizzling, and their huge list of impossible scenarios and problems grows daily. Add into the mix the brother, sisters-in-law, parents, ex, the entire congregation, and audiences are in for a wild, thoughtful, informative roller coaster ride that begs for another season to conclude so many storylines. I was sorry to see it end. I wanted more.
NOBODY WANTS THIS is comedy at its best. The quick bantering will lead viewers to relationship conundrums and life-changing moments (‘Matzah Ballers rule!’). It is a heart-filled romp that won’t disappoint.
It is streaming on Netflix.
