MY YEAR OF DICKS 🤩

MY YEAR OF DICKS is an animated coming-of-age short that follows 15-year-old Pam in her quest to lose her virginity. The film is broken into five bite-sized chapters, each chronicling a single attempt toward Pamela’s goal. Based on the author’s autobiographical memoir, NOTES TO BOYS, it’s a familiar premise at this point, one we’ve seen in SUPERBAD and BOOKSMART, and the structure is reminiscent of SCOTT PILGRIM. But the story feels fresh, new, and maybe surprisingly, wholesome.

The film employs a thoughtfully chaotic use of animation and art styles to illustrate and emphasize Pam’s perspective. You can tell that we’re watching memories, and it gives the short a nostalgic and emotional feel. It’s also not easy to box into a singular genre – although comedic overall, some tense moments elevate the tone.

MY YEAR OF DICKS is a unique and compelling 24-minute animated short film that’ll leave you laughing and/or crying. It’s available to stream on Hulu or to watch in theaters as part of ShortsTV’s presentation of Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts.
