KATRINA: COME HELL AND HIGH WATER 🤩

KATRINA: COME HELL AND HIGH WATER was an intense look back at the results of one of our country’s most devastating hurricanes. Katrina took New Orleans to its knees. This three-part documentary showcased those horrific times with truth and grace. It was a complicated watch, but necessary, since it had happened twenty years ago, and history always has a way of repeating itself. It was important to stand as a witness once again and learn from mistakes made.

The film was able to share personal stories from many of Katrina‘s victims and survivors. The video clips and interviews authenticated many back stories that needed to be retold. Watching the water rise was harrowing and made me wonder what I would do under those circumstances. I had forgotten since life moved on, but we, as a society, should never forget how thousands of people suffered and are still traumatized today.

Each episode dealt with the before, during, and the aftermath of Katrina. The writers included how New Orleans is still dealing with the rebuilding and gentrification of a beloved city. This work will take decades to bring back communities and neighborhoods. I had no idea. My heart wept for all the people who are gone and those who can never return.

KATRINA: COME HELL AND HIGH WATER is must-see TV. I binged the series while sitting in silent awe and anguish.

It is streaming on Netflix.
